How It Works
The calculator runs a funnel. It starts with the population you enter and applies six filters in order, each keeping only the percentage of people who pass it.
- Age eligible: people within your chosen range of your own age.
- Gender match: the share who match the gender you are interested in.
- Single or available: people who are not already in a relationship.
- Education, income and shared interests: the share who meet each of your preferences.
Every default percentage is editable, so you can plug in local statistics or your own best estimates.

What Is the Formula?
- P: the total population of your city or area.
- a: the age eligible share: (upper age minus lower age) ÷ 62, kept between 5% and 95%.
- g, s, e, i, h: the gender, single, education, income and shared interest shares.
- The running count is rounded to whole people after each step.
This is the same logic as the Drake equation, which estimates alien civilisations by multiplying probabilities. Here it estimates potential partners near you.
Age Range to Age Eligible Share
The age filter is often the tightest step. This chart converts common age windows into the share of adults the calculator counts as age eligible.

Younger users lose part of their range to the 18 year floor, so a 22 year old's ±10 window counts fewer ages than a 30 year old's.
Worked Example
Using the defaults: a city of 1,000,000, age 28 with a ±5 year range, 50% gender match, 40% single, 45% education, 50% income and 25% shared interests.

The final pool is 1,815 people, a survival rate of about 0.18%. The age filter passes the smallest share (16.1%), so it is marked as the most restrictive.
Widening the age range to ±8 years lifts the pool to about 2,904 people, a 60% increase from one small change.
